About Michie

Michie is a small McNairy County town gathered around State Routes 22 and 224 in southwestern Tennessee. The town sits near the Mississippi state line, with State Route 57 crossing its northern side and running east toward Pickwick Lake. That puts a day on the water within the town’s regional orbit, while Shiloh National Military Park lies nearby to the west. The landscape is a mix of roads, woods, farms, and small crossroads instead of a dense downtown grid.

The place began as Pea Ridge in the 1820s. When residents applied for a post office in 1887, Monterey was already taken elsewhere in Tennessee, so they chose Michie, the name of a prominent local family. Michie Elementary carries the Blue Devils name and sits within the McNairy County school system. For residents, the town’s character comes from those overlapping layers: an old settlement name, a practical highway junction, and close ties to Pickwick’s lake country and the Civil War landscape around Shiloh.
