About Middleburgh

Middleburgh is a Schoharie County village in the town of the same name, where the local story begins in 1712, when German Palatines led by Johan Conrad Weiser built the settlement known as Weisersdorf. Forty log-and-earth huts gave way to cleared fields and grist mills, and by the Revolution the Schoharie Valley was sending out enough grain to earn the nickname Bread Basket of the Revolution. Schoharie Creek still runs through the town, joined near the village by the Little Schoharie and Stony Creek. Middleburgh is an upstate New York place where a river valley, an old settlement name, and an early food-growing story still line up.
