About Middleport

Middleport is a Niagara County village mostly inside the Town of Royalton, with a small piece in Hartland. Settlers began arriving around 1808, a store opened in 1822, and the Erie Canal later turned the settlement into a canal port between larger communities. Today NY 271 meets NY 31 and NY 31E in the village. Middleport is western New York in a canal-era name: a small place on the route between water, roads, and the towns around it.
