Midvale, OH

Midvale is a Tuscarawas County village in Ohio’s Tuscarawas River valley, with 673 residents in the 2020 census. It lies halfway between New Philadelphia and Uhrichsville and covers about three-quarters of a square mile across parts of Goshen, Mill, and Warwick townships. Village Hall on Barnhill Road, local police service, and the Indian Valley Local School District give the village its present civic frame. Midvale Elementary is in the village, while Indian Valley’s middle school is in Tuscarawas and its high school is in Gnadenhutten.

Midvale was platted in 1888 and took its name from its midpoint between the two larger Tuscarawas County communities. The town’s older map is still visible in the river valley and the roads leading toward New Philadelphia, Uhrichsville, and the surrounding townships. Midvale’s History Group, founded by two retired Midvale Elementary teachers, has helped collect the village’s stories in books about Midvale’s past and schools. Midvale is an Ohio village where a three-quarter-mile footprint, a shared school district, and a valley location keep the center easy to picture.
