Miller, OH

Miller is a census-designated place in Rome Township, Lawrence County, Ohio, on the west bank of the Ohio River. The 2020 census counted 455 residents. Ohio State Route 7 passes through the community, with Athalia just south, Gallipolis upriver, and Chesapeake and Huntington downstream. The river is the defining edge: homes and roads sit between the water and the hills of southeastern Lawrence County. Floodplain roads, boat traffic, and the nearby West Virginia shore give the community a strong river orientation through every season.

Local place history traces the name to the Miller family and to a post office name that replaced Haskellville in the nineteenth century. Rome Township developed through river settlement, farm roads, mills, and later highway traffic, while the Ohio continues to carry flood, recreation, and landscape stories through the county. Boats and floods remain part of its memory. Miller is a small Ohio River community where a renamed post office, a state route, a neighboring village, and the broad river corridor meet.
