Millington, MI

Millington grew in Tuscola County as a village inside Millington Township, with school, manufacturing, agriculture, and road links tying the community to Saginaw and Flint. The first local school was established in 1856; after several changes of name, the settlement was replatted and officially called Millington in 1872. That sequence says something about the village’s history: it has been rebuilt and renamed around the institutions that made the surrounding farm country workable.

Millington Community Schools now run from kindergarten through high school, and a Lutheran school serves younger students. Manufacturing jobs and agriculture remain part of the local economy, while Murphy Lake State Game Area four miles east-northeast adds wetlands, woods, and seasonal outdoor use. The village’s shops, restaurants, antiques, and school events give the center a modest local rhythm; Saginaw and Flint remain within the daily orbit for larger work and errands. Millington is a small Cardinal community with a school at its center and open country just beyond.
