Millport, AL

Millport sits along Alabama State Highway 96 in southern Lamar County. Before incorporation in 1887, the settlement was known as Lick Skillet; the town now covers about 5.4 square miles. Its local history includes a period when Millport was Lamar County's largest town, from 1890 to 1900, before Sulligent took that distinction. The 2020 census counted 1,010 residents, placing Millport among the county's small collection of incorporated communities in west-central Alabama.

South Lamar School gives the town one of its clearest civic reference points. Its campus on South Lamar School Road provides the local public-school hub within Lamar County School District for local students, and the district lists Millport as the school's address. The town also holds the Stallion Street Fair each November, a recurring event that brings local activity onto the town's main street. Highway 96 ties Millport to the county network, while the school, fair, municipal streets, and long-running town name keep daily life rooted in southern Lamar County.
