About Millport

Millport is a village in Chemung County, New York, United States. The 2020 census counted 301 residents. The name comes from its former status as a canal port. Millport is in the northwest quadrant of Veteran and is north of Elmira. That mix gives Millport a clear local shape within New York, with older layers still visible in current places. The local scoop is a place whose streets, landmarks, and institutions keep its earlier story close to the present. The Sullivan Expedition of 1779 passed through the area. The town's first settler, Green Bently, purchased and developed farmland on the site of the village in 1798. New York State Route 14 passes through the village, which is at the junction of County Road 6A.
