Millry, AL

Millry is a Washington County town in southwest Alabama, in the north-central part of the county near the Mississippi line. White settlers arrived in the early nineteenth century, and the community developed around farming and lumber production. The town incorporated in 1947, giving its municipal history a relatively recent date compared with the older settlement pattern around it.

Millry's map remains connected to the county's outdoor landscape. Bladon Springs State Park lies about ten miles northeast, while the Washington County State Public Fishing Lake is about two miles west. A caboose in Millry City Park adds a small railroad-era detail to the town center, where municipal departments, stores, and rural roads meet. Millry is a local point in a broad southwestern Alabama landscape, with agriculture, timber, parks, and county roads carrying the story outward. Washington County's Choctaw history and later farming settlement sit behind the modern town grid. The surrounding roads lead through wooded country toward the state parks and fishing lake.
