Millsap, TX

Millsap is a small Parker County town on Farm to Market Road 113, about 15 miles west of Weatherford. Its first role was as a relay station on the stagecoach route from Weatherford to Palo Pinto, when travelers and mail needed a place to change horses and pause on the long road west. The town was named for Fuller Millsap, who came to Texas in 1849 and settled in Parker County in 1856. The stage route gave the settlement its first reason to exist, before roads and automobiles changed how people crossed the county.

Millsap Independent School District remains one of the town's main institutions, serving students from the surrounding farm and ranch country. Weatherford is close enough to handle larger errands, but Millsap keeps its own name and town center along the old westward route. The 2020 census counted 370 residents. Millsap's story is a simple Texas progression: a stage relay became a named settlement, and a small school town grew around the roads that replaced the coaches.
