Minatare, NE

Minatare got its start in the late 1880s as a settlement called Tabor, built around the early irrigation canals that helped turn the North Platte Valley into fertile farmland. When the railroad laid tracks a short distance away in 1900, the residents simply packed up the town, moved closer to the line, and took on the name Minatare, a local word meaning "clear water." That practical, determined spirit still defines the community today, giving the area a quiet, down-to-earth character rooted in agriculture.

For anyone considering a move, Minatare offers a peaceful rural lifestyle with its own local K-12 public schools and an easy 15-minute drive into Scottsbluff for major shopping, dining, and healthcare. Outdoor recreation is right down the road at Lake Minatare State Recreation Area, popular for boating, fishing, camping, and its historic stone lighthouse. Every August, the community comes together for Tabor Days, honoring the town's original name with a weekend parade, cookouts, and family activities.
