About Mineola

Mineola's courthouse, rail station, and hospital give this compact Long Island village several roles at once. The Nassau County seat moved here in 1900, six years before Mineola incorporated, and government offices remain concentrated around Old Country Road while most of the village lies within the Town of North Hempstead. Its population was 20,800 in the 2020 census, within a land area of 1.85 square miles. The LIRR's Mineola station is a Main Line stop and transit hub; work under the LIRR Expansion Project added wider platforms, pedestrian overpasses, accessibility improvements, and station art. A few blocks away, NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is a 591-bed medical center and houses NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine's three-year program focused on primary care.

Village recreation gathers in three parks. Wilson Park contains the resident-access John S. DaVanzo Community Pool; its 2026 season included swim lessons, aquasize, a swim team, family nights, and a summer recreation program. Memorial Park's amphitheater held eight concerts that year, while Second Street added three outdoor shows. The same civic calendar included a Portuguese Center carnival and Portugal Day parade, a street fair, and a fall festival, giving the village's established Portuguese community a visible place in public events. Mineola Memorial Library, next to Memorial Park, maintains a full program calendar alongside homework help, e-books, streaming media, and research databases. Its 2026 summer schedule also placed library pop-ups at the pool, directly linking two of the village's busiest public facilities.
