Mineral City, OH

Mineral City is a small village tucked into the northwest corner of Tuscarawas County, Ohio, along State Route 800. Home to around 500 residents, it offers a peaceful rural setting just minutes from the shoreline of Atwood Lake. The town earned its name from the rich coal and clay deposits once mined in the surrounding hills. Today, daily life centers around a neighborhood park, local ballfields, and a welcoming library branch, with children attending the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District.

The community started in the 1850s as Mineral Point, quickly expanding with the arrival of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad and local coal operations. During the late nineteenth century, the downtown area bustled with shops, hotels, and an opera house where Will Rogers once performed. Mineral City has since settled into a much quieter pace, making it an appealing option for anyone looking for a tight-knit neighborhood, scenic surroundings, and easy access to lake recreation.
