Minersville, PA

Minersville is a Schuylkill County borough in Pennsylvania's anthracite region, set along the old Sunbury Trail between the mountain ridges. The 2020 census counted 4,388 residents. The place began with Thomas Reed's 1783 log cabin, sawmill, and tavern, then changed direction when anthracite coal was found nearby in 1799. Mining, rail connections, immigrant labor, and the borough's 1831 incorporation built the dense town that followed. Minersville's streets still carry that layered history. Sunbury Street follows the old trail, while the borough's historical society preserves photographs, maps, ethnic clothing, and mine records from a community shaped by English, Welsh, German, and Irish arrivals.

The coal economy once pushed the borough's headcount above 9,000, then machinery and newer fuels cut the number of mining jobs and changed the town's commercial center.
