About Monticello

Monticello is a city and the county seat of San Juan County, Utah, situated at the base of the Abajo Mountains. Named for Thomas Jefferson's estate and established by Mormon pioneers in 1887, the historic uranium-boom community of approximately 2,200 is served by the San Juan School District for education locally.
