About Montpelier

Montpelier is a quiet riverfront community tucked along the banks of the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa. Home to around 200 people, it offers a peaceful rural atmosphere right off scenic Highway 22. The settlement dates back to the 1830s, when early pioneers named the spot after Vermont’s capital. Today, one of its greatest highlights is Wildcat Den State Park right next door, where residents can hike past sandstone bluffs and visit the historic 1848 Pine Creek Grist Mill.
