About Rock Island

Rock Island is the county seat of Rock Island County and one of the Quad Cities on the Mississippi River. The original settlement was once called Farnhamsburg, after early homes built by Colonel George Davenport and others, but the island and river soon became the defining geography. Rock Island Arsenal remains one of the area's most important institutions, and the Denkmann-Hauberg House preserves a piece of local history. The city feels industrial, riverfront, and deeply tied to the shared Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities identity.
