Rock Island sits right on the Mississippi River, looking across the water toward Davenport, Iowa. The massive Rock Island Arsenal sits on an island in the middle of the river, serving as one of the area's largest employers with thousands of civilian and defense jobs right off downtown. Getting around the Quad Cities from here is easy. Historic bridges like the double-deck Government Bridge connect you directly to Iowa in minutes, while local transit lines make hopping between downtown Rock Island and neighboring cities simple for daily commuters.

The city offers a surprising mix of scenery once you step away from the riverfront. Heading up into the bluffs, you will find the wooded campus of Augustana College surrounded by quiet, established neighborhoods. Streets in the College Hill area wind past century-old homes, leafy ravines, and mature oak trees, giving the neighborhood a cozy college-town feel. The area also has deep roots, with the nearby Black Hawk State Historic Site preserving both the region's indigenous Sauk heritage and beautiful bluffs overlooking the Rock River.
