Monument, NM

Monument is a quiet rural community tucked into southeastern New Mexico, sitting just a short drive southwest of Hobbs. With a population of around two hundred people, it offers a peaceful, open-country setting shaped by ranching roots and the surrounding Permian Basin oilfields. The town takes its name from nearby Monument Spring, a historic desert watering hole that made this area the earliest established settlement in Lea County.

Living here means trading city congestion for wide-open high-desert skies and a tight-knit, low-key atmosphere. While the community itself is small, with its local post office at the crossroads of State Routes 8 and 322, everyday conveniences and jobs are right down the road in Hobbs. Students attend the Hobbs school district, giving families access to larger-town amenities while coming home to a quiet corner of the plains.
