Moody AFB, GA

Located just a few miles northeast of Valdosta, Moody Air Force Base anchors a close-knit military community tucked into the pine woods of south Georgia. The base got its start in 1941 as a World War II flight training field named in honor of Major George P. Moody, an early aviation pioneer. Over the decades, what began as a wartime airfield has grown into one of the region's major economic hubs and an integral part of everyday life in Lowndes County.

Today, Moody is best known as home to the famous Flying Tigers, whose iconic shark-faced aircraft and rescue helicopters are a familiar sight in local skies. The base functions much like a self-contained town, offering on-base housing, healthcare, and family amenities. For broader dining, shopping, and entertainment, downtown Valdosta is an easy fifteen-minute drive down the road, giving residents a straightforward mix of quiet base living and city conveniences.
