About Moorhead

Moorhead is a Sunflower County city at the meeting point of U.S. 82 and Mississippi Highway 3, east of Indianola in the Mississippi Delta. The city grew around a railroad crossing where the Southern Railroad crossed the Yazoo Delta Railroad, later linked to the Columbus and Greenville and Yazoo and Mississippi Valley lines. A historic plaque marks that rail history, and the former Yazoo & Mississippi Valley depot is the last surviving building tied to Moorhead's railroad importance.

Mississippi Delta Community College's main campus occupies a large tract on the city's eastern edge, bringing students, faculty, athletic events, adult education, and regional programs into the local map throughout the school year. Moorhead Central School serves younger students through the Sunflower County Consolidated School District, while Highway 82 and Highway 3 connect the city with Greenwood, Greenville, Indianola, Jackson, and Memphis. Moorhead is a Mississippi Delta city where a rail junction, a community college, a K–8 school, and two highways meet.
