Morgan, MN

Morgan is a Redwood County crossroads town, set where Minnesota Highways 67 and 68 meet amid the broad farm country of southwestern Minnesota. The town was platted in 1878 and took the name Lewis H. Morgan, a figure whose name traveled with the new settlement as postal connections gave the place a foothold. Its post office dates to the same year, and Morgan became an incorporated city in 1889. Those dates give the town a clear origin story: a late-nineteenth-century place laid out around movement, mail, and the practical exchange of goods between farms.

Today the highway junction still gives Morgan its shape. The town sits within reach of Redwood County’s larger service centers, but its everyday scale is that of a small agricultural community, with local streets leading back into fields and neighboring townships. The 2020 census counted 888 residents, a figure that makes the town’s size easy to picture without swallowing its character. Morgan’s appeal is in that balance: it has a defined civic center and a recognizable name on the map, while the surrounding landscape remains the main event.
