Morrisville, MO

Morrisville is a city in southern Polk County, about five miles west of Brighton and within the Springfield metropolitan area. The 2010 census counted 388 residents. The Little Sac River passes roughly two miles to the southeast, so the town's setting is a mix of open farm country, small waterways, and roads leading toward the larger Springfield orbit. Morrisville is one of those places whose scale is easy to underestimate on a map: the city is small, but it sits within a working agricultural landscape and has its own school and post office history.

Morris Mitchell founded the town in 1870, and Morrisville took his name. A post office has operated here since 1872, giving the place a long-running point of contact for the surrounding countryside. Early R-V School District operates the local schools, including Marion C. Early High School at Morrisville, and the district serves as one of the town's clearest civic links. The Little Sac keeps the geography connected to the wider watershed, while the town's story fits together through a namesake founder, a post office, a school district, and a river a short drive away.
