Morton, MS

Morton is a Scott County city whose work map is closely tied to poultry processing. The 2020 census counted 3,711 residents, and Koch Foods operates the largest poultry plant in town. That industrial base gives Morton a different rhythm from the surrounding woods and parkland: trucks and shifts matter here, alongside the schools and small-city errands that keep Scott County moving. The Scott County School District serves local students, while East Central Community College covers the county's community-college needs.

The landscape changes quickly outside town. Morton is surrounded by Bienville National Forest, and Roosevelt State Park lies southwest of the city, with its Civilian Conservation Corps-era history still visible in the park's buildings and grounds. The park was established in 1934, giving Morton a nearby piece of New Deal history. One edge points toward a large processing operation and a regional education system; the other points toward pine forest and a park built into a 1930s public-works story.
