Morven, GA

Morven is a Brooks County city of 506 residents in the 2020 census, part of the Valdosta metropolitan area and the oldest European-established community in the county. Before Morven, the place was known as Sharpe's Store. Coffee Road opened through here around 1823, giving early settlers a route between the Alapaha River country and Florida. State Highways 76 and 94 meet in town, eight miles west of Interstate 75, with Little River and farm roads framing the surrounding landscape.

The early economy grew around sawmills, farms, cotton plantations, and enslaved African American labor, a history that belongs to Brooks County's story. The South Georgia Railroad reached Morven in the late nineteenth century, adding another line of movement through the community. Today the city remains small, but its roads still make it a practical stop between the county's rural districts and larger Valdosta-area services. Morven is a south Georgia place with an old road, a river nearby, a railroad chapter, and a name borrowed from a mountain in Scotland.
