Moundville, AL

Moundville is a town in Hale County, Alabama, situated along the Black Warrior River near the city of Tuscaloosa. The community is famous for the adjacent Moundville Archaeological Site, a Mississippian culture archaeological park administered by the University of Alabama Museums. The historic site was once the political and ceremonial center of a major prehistoric chiefdom, featuring twenty-nine platform mounds surrounding a central plaza.
