About Mount Morris
Mount Morris is a Genesee County city on the Flint River, part of the Flint metropolitan area and bordered by Mount Morris Township on the west and Genesee Township on the east. Benjamin Pearson was the first settler in the area in 1833; the settlement was known as Genesee before taking the Mount Morris name, and the town became a village in 1867 and a city in 1929. The railroad arrived in the 1850s, giving the place a station and a direct link to the region’s industrial geography. Today the city’s map includes council, public works, fire, police, parks, and the Mt. Morris Historical Society’s local collection at the public library. Mount Morris is a small Flint-area city with a river, a rail past, and its own civic machinery.
