About Mount Morris

Mount Morris is a Livingston County village on the Genesee River, named for Robert Morris and incorporated in 1835. Early settlers called the place Allen Hill and Richmond Hill before the village took the name that now belongs to both the village and its surrounding town. The village sits at the northeastern entrance to Letchworth State Park, and the park's northern Mount Morris entrance leads toward the Genesee gorge and Highbanks area. Main Street markers, the historical society, river crossings, and the park road give Mount Morris a layered local map. It is a western New York village with a name from Revolutionary-era finance, a river at its edge, and a major park landscape just beyond town.
