Mount Pleasant Mills, PA

Mount Pleasant Mills is a small census-designated community in Perry Township, Snyder County, where the name points directly to the place’s old working landscape. A stone mill on the North Branch Mahantango Creek, commonly known as Mount Pleasant Mill, stood near Fremont by the end of the eighteenth century. The three-and-a-half-story structure was part of a cluster of early enterprises that included milling, sawmilling, and distilling, with Frederick Stees among the owners who helped shape the creekside economy. The name endured even as the work around the water changed.

That mill history gives Mount Pleasant Mills more texture than a road label alone. The community sits among rolling central Pennsylvania farms, small streams, and township roads, with Perry Township providing the civic framework. The 2000 census counted 342 residents, a scale that fits the dispersed pattern of the surrounding countryside. Here the sense of place comes from the meeting of waterpower and farmland: an old stone industrial building, a creek with a memory, and a hamlet whose name still carries the imprint of the mill that held it together.
