About Mountain View

Mountain View is a Uinta County town on the northern side of the Uinta Mountains, in the Bridger Valley near Fort Bridger. The 2020 census counted 1,278 residents. The town was founded in 1891 and later platted on forty acres donated for homes, business, and a school. That old layout still helps make sense of the place: Mountain View sits in a valley shaped by ranching, highway travel, and the historic routes that once converged around Fort Bridger.

Fort Bridger carries the deeper regional backstory. Jim Bridger's trading post served travelers on the Oregon, Mormon, and California trails, and the valley's annual mountain-man rendezvous keeps that era visible through costumes, demonstrations, and competitions. Local schools run through Uinta County School District 4, with elementary, middle, and high school campuses in town. Mountain View is the kind of place where the big landmarks are close by, but the town itself holds the everyday pieces: school drop-offs, ranch roads, and the long view south toward the Uintas.
