About Moville
Moville is a Woodbury County city about 15 miles east of Sioux City, just north of U.S. 20. The 2020 census counted 1,687 residents. John B. McDermott is credited with naming the town for his birthplace in Ireland, and he opened the first post office from his home in 1868. The city now sits in a rural school-and-fair network, with Woodbury Central Community School District serving the town and nearby countryside. The Woodbury County Fair has made Moville its home since 1930; its fairgrounds hold livestock, 4-H exhibits, grandstand events, and the annual August gathering for the surrounding farm country.
Moville Days and the Woodbury County Library add more regular reasons to come into town, while Woodbury County REC's office and nearby substation tie the city to the region's rural electric system. Moville's local scoop is an Iowa town where a county fair, a school district, a library, and a cooperative utility all meet a few miles from Sioux City.
