About Muddy

Home to around 60 people, Muddy is a tiny southern Illinois village in Saline County. The community got its start in 1903 as a settlement for the Harrisburg Big Muddy Coal Company. Today, the old rail line that once carried coal through town has been transformed into the Tunnel Hill State Trail, offering quiet, scenic paths for walking and cycling.
