About Murphys Estates

Murphys Estates is a CDP in Edgefield County along US 25, just north of North Augusta and close to I-20. The name recognized on the map covers the area also widely known as Murphy Village, home to a long-established Irish Traveller community. That story begins with Our Lady of Peace Parish in North Augusta, where Irish Travellers gathered after the church opened in 1948; St. Edward Catholic Church was built in Murphy Village in 1964. The community's Catholic landmarks, private traditions, and connections along US 25 give the place a distinct identity within the Augusta area. Edgefield is about eight miles north, North Augusta about eight miles south, placing Murphys Estates between county-seat and metro ties.
