Myrtle Springs, TX

Myrtle Springs is a Van Zandt County CDP with a much bigger nineteenth-century story than its current map label suggests. The springs were first called Holden Springs after J. M. Uncle Mat Holden bought land there in 1872, built a steam gin and mill, and helped start the settlement. Nursery worker W. A. T. Murrey later gave it the Myrtle Springs name, and the place became a sulfur-water resort, fruit-and-nursery center, and small manufacturing town. In the 1890s, it had hotels, a park with gondolas, a canning factory, broom and buggy factories, and a nursery. It is now an unincorporated CDP off Highway 64 and Farm Road 1504, northwest of Canton.
