Naschitti is a small, quiet community in northwestern New Mexico, set along U.S. 491 roughly halfway between Gallup and Shiprock. With fewer than 400 residents, it offers a peaceful rural setting with wide-open skies and scenic views toward the Chuska Mountains. Local history says the area got its name from the Navajo word for badger after one of the animals burrowed into the ground and uncovered a fresh water spring. That water source led to a historic windmill that still stands near the trading post, anchoring the settlement along one of the Four Corners region's main highways.

Daily life here centers around the Naschitti Chapter House and Governance Center. The chapter grounds serve as the primary gathering spot for the community, hosting regular local meetings alongside social events. On any given week, you will find neighbors coming together for senior bingo, seasonal wellness clinics, livestock meetings, and family celebrations. A couple of long-standing churches and the local trading post complete the town center, giving the area a friendly, familiar rhythm where residents look out for one another.

Families in town are served by Naschitti Elementary School, a modern facility rebuilt in 2015 that educates around 80 students from preschool through sixth grade. As part of the Central Consolidated School District, the school weaves Navajo language and cultural literacy into everyday learning. For higher grade levels, specialized medical care, and major grocery shopping, residents typically make the drive north to Newcomb or head south toward Gallup.
