Neptune Beach, FL

Sitting between Atlantic Beach to the north and Jacksonville Beach to the south, Neptune Beach is a quiet, walkable coastal community spanning about two and a half square miles. It has a distinctly residential, laid-back feel compared to its neighbors, framed by the Atlantic ocean on the east and scenic salt marshes on the west. The town got its name in 1922 when a resident named Dan Wheeler built a personal train depot so the commuter train would stop near his house. A few years later, residents voted to break away and incorporate as an independent city, preserving the relaxed, small-town character that still defines it today.

Third Street, which also carries Highway A1A, serves as the main dividing line through town. Living east of Third puts you within a quick walk or bike ride of the sand, along streets filled with beach cottages, duplexes, and modern coastal homes. Head west of Third, and the atmosphere becomes even quieter, with leafy residential blocks and larger lots. At the northern border along Atlantic Boulevard, Beaches Town Center is the area's main gathering spot. Shared with neighboring Atlantic Beach, this walkable district is packed with local restaurants, coffee spots, retail boutiques, and lively outdoor patios.

Daily life revolves heavily around the outdoors. More than twenty neighborhood access points lead straight to the ocean, making it easy to hit the beach for a morning surf session or an evening walk. A few blocks inland, Jarboe Park provides green space, playgrounds, tennis and pickleball courts, community event facilities, and a weekly farmers market. While local shops and dining cluster along Third Street and Atlantic Boulevard, most of Neptune Beach consists of peaceful residential streets where golf carts and beach cruisers are everyday transportation.
