About Nettleton
Nettleton is a two-county Mississippi city, split between Lee County on the north and Monroe County on the south. The town was laid out along the Kansas City, Memphis & Birmingham Railroad in 1887 and incorporated the next year, taking its name from railroad president George Henry Nettleton. Hardwood followed the rails: the Nettleton Hardwood Company opened a large sawmill in 1890. Today U.S. 45 and 278 run along the west side, so the city's map still reads as rail line, highway, and county boundary all at once.
