About New Athens

Tucked into the rolling hills of Harrison County, New Athens is a quiet village with roots going back to 1817. It has a fascinating backstory for such a small place. In 1818, local minister John Walker established Franklin College here, turning the village into an early center for education and the abolitionist movement that drew students from across the country.
