New Berlin, PA

New Berlin is a Union County borough on Penns Creek, with 801 residents in the 2020 census. The creek divides Union and Snyder counties, and the borough’s Town Square still holds the old courthouse, post office, and Courthouse Museum. Mifflinburg Area School District serves local students, while Lewisburg and Mifflinburg handle more of the region’s shopping, medical, and employment needs. The borough’s everyday life is organized around the creek, the square, the fire company, and a compact historic street grid.

New Berlin was settled in 1792 and served as Union County’s original county seat before the government moved to Lewisburg. The courthouse remained, giving the borough a physical link to its early civic role rather than just a plaque on a wall. The New Berlin Presbyterian Church and other older buildings add to that historic fabric, but the place is still a lived-in borough: school buses, borough meetings, post office errands, and Penns Creek all share the same small circuit.
