New Bloomfield, MO

New Bloomfield sits in Cedar Township, Callaway County, on the old road between Fulton and Jefferson City. The area’s first post office, Round Prairie, opened in 1828; a town was surveyed nearby in 1836, and the later Chicago & Alton Railroad made New Bloomfield a stop in the rural network. U.S. 54 still runs just west of town, but its 1983 bypass changed the daily traffic pattern, leaving local streets with more of the town’s own business.

Today, New Bloomfield is a small city in the Jefferson City metro area, with city water, sewer, street work, a volunteer fire tradition, shops, churches, and homes serving the surrounding farm country. Town Creek passes along the east side, while Highway 54 makes Jefferson City reachable for employment, medical care, and larger errands. The old railroad station and bypass story capture the town’s basic rhythm: transportation has repeatedly reshaped its role, while local people keep the municipal pieces working. New Bloomfield is close to the state capital without being absorbed by it.
