New Castle, KY

New Castle is a Henry County home rule-class city in north-central Kentucky, about 35 miles northeast of Louisville along U.S. 421. The 2020 census counted 884 residents. The county courthouse square, Main Street businesses, city offices, Henry County History Center, and rural roads keep the town's civic life visible. The surrounding county is farm country, so tractors, school buses, and commuter traffic share the same streets.

New Castle became the county seat when Henry County was created in 1798 and incorporated in 1817. Its courthouse square remains one of Kentucky's intact nineteenth-century county-seat layouts, and the city maintains a preservation district through Kentucky Main Street and Preserve America programs. The Henry County History Center occupies the 1863 Caplinger House, while the old courthouse and nearby homes hold the town's architectural memory. U.S. 421 leads north to Campbellsburg and southeast toward Frankfort; I-71 and Louisville sit beyond the local roads. New Castle is a courthouse town whose daily business still mixes county government, farming, historic buildings, and Main Street commerce.
