About New Melle

New Melle is a small city in southwestern St. Charles County, about 37 miles west of St. Louis, at the meeting of Highways Z, D, and F. German immigrants from Melle arrived in 1839, organized St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1844, and built a town with stores, a mill, a hotel, schools, a creamery, blacksmith shops, and a brick kiln before 1900. The old commercial mix shows why the crossroads matters: New Melle grew as a service town for the surrounding farms and roads.

Present-day routines spread across that older center and a county park. Daniel Boone Elementary and several churches sit alongside city hall, the fire district, and New Melle Sports and Recreation. At 400 Foristell Road, the Park at New Melle Lakes adds paved and natural-surface trails, fishing lakes, an 18-hole disc golf course, and kayak or paddleboard access. The local scoop is a German-settled crossroads where historic church life, school, civic services, and a county lakes park all meet within the same southwest St. Charles County map.
