New Salisbury, IN

New Salisbury is an unincorporated census-designated place in Harrison County, centered at the meeting of Indiana Routes 135 and 64 about seven miles from Corydon, the county seat. The 2020 census counted 550 residents. Jackson Township farm roads feed into this crossroads, where groceries, a pharmacy, a bank, medical offices, a veterinarian, and small businesses give the place a practical role beyond its size. North Harrison Community School Corporation serves the surrounding area. That mix keeps the intersection useful for nearby farms and homes.

John Kepley platted New Salisbury in 1839 and named it for his former home of Salisbury, North Carolina. Older county histories place Kepley in the area even earlier, choosing the town site for its level ground and nearby springs. New Salisbury was also caught up in the Civil War when Morgan’s Raiders passed through southern Indiana in July 1863. Today the place remains a Harrison County crossroads: a school district, two state routes, local businesses, and the short trip into Corydon’s county-seat orbit.
