New Strawn is a quiet Coffey County community of around 400 residents, sitting right by the shores of John Redmond Reservoir. The town has a unique history. When the federal reservoir and dam were built in the 1960s, the original town of Strawn had to move out of the river valley to make way for the water. The neighbors chose to stick together, relocating a few miles east onto higher ground to build a fresh town from scratch.
