About Newburgh Heights

South of Cleveland, Newburgh Heights occupies a half-square-mile wedge between the Cuyahoga River’s industrial valley, Slavic Village, and Washington Reservation Metropark. Its older story reaches beyond its present footprint: Newburgh Township was an early regional center, and the Cleveland Rolling Mill brought Welsh, Irish, Polish, German, and Czech workers to the area after 1857. The village incorporated in 1904, then lost surrounding farmland to Cuyahoga Heights and Garfield Heights. Today it is a compact residential village with Kathy Edwards Park, a dog park, library lockers, and access to the 59-acre Metropark. Newburgh Heights is Cleveland-adjacent with a steel-town past and a small boundary that still touches the valley.
