Newcomerstown, OH

Tucked along the Tuscarawas River about an hour and a half east of Columbus, Newcomerstown is a quiet village of around 3,700 residents. The area traces its origins back to the 1760s, when Lenape leader Netawatwees, also known as Chief Newcomer, established a settlement named for the calm river waters. As the decades passed, the river valley supported early mills and local trade, shaping a down-to-earth community with deep historical roots.

Daily life here revolves around a traditional downtown area along Main and Bridge streets, home to locally owned spots and an active community library. Newcomerstown is also well known as the hometown of baseball legend Cy Young, and residents take pride in honoring both their sporting and indigenous heritage through local parks and museums.
