Mill Pond Park concentrates much of Newington's outdoor civic life in one place. Its pond and waterfall sit beside a walking path, swimming and wading pools, an accessible playground, basketball courts, clay tennis courts, soccer fields, outdoor exercise equipment, chess tables, and a pavilion. The park hosted Thursday-evening concerts in June and July 2026, then became the grounds for the town's forty-fourth Life. Be in it. Extravaganza. That four-day July event combined rides, games, food, arts and crafts, live music, and fireworks. Lucy Robbins Welles Library extends the public calendar indoors: it opens six days a week, including four evenings, and schedules book groups, technology help, storytimes, craft sessions, and programs for teens and older adults. A July 2025 estimate placed Newington's population at 31,647, an increase of nearly four percent from the 2020 estimate base.

During 2020 through 2024, owner occupancy was 78 percent, the median owner-occupied value was $310,400, monthly costs for mortgage holders were $2,259, and median gross rent was $1,524. Median household income was $102,884, workers averaged about 21 minutes of travel to work, 19 percent of residents were foreign-born, and 27 percent of people age five or older spoke a language other than English at home. Newington Junction, at the town's northwest edge, is both a historic neighborhood and a CTfastrak station. Route 101 stops there on its all-stations run between downtown New Britain and downtown Hartford, giving that part of town a direct transit connection to both centers.
