Niskayuna, NY

Niskayuna is a Schenectady County community along the Mohawk River, with a name tied to the fertile river bottomlands once cultivated by the Mohawk. The name is often translated roughly as "extensive corn flats," a direct reference to those fields along the river. Today Niskayuna is known as a residential and school-focused suburb in the Capital Region, with the Niskayuna Central School District based in town. The Mohawk River still gives the community much of its geographic identity.
