Nisswa is a city in Crow Wing County, Minnesota, operating within the Brainerd Lakes Area near Gull Lake. Originally organized as Smiley Township in 1900 and renamed from the Ojibwe word nessawae, the resort community of approximately 1,954 is traversed by the Paul Bunyan State Trail and is served by Brainerd Public Schools for education.
