Noroton, CT

Noroton is the Census-defined community on the southwestern Long Island Sound side of Darien, not the separate Noroton Heights CDP to its north. Federal boundary records give Noroton 1.81 square miles of land and about half a square mile of water, reflecting a shoreline that includes Noroton Neck and the approaches to Holly Pond and the Goodwives River. Federal counts identified 5,317 residents in 2020. Those figures describe the CDP itself rather than Darien as a whole. Waterfront facilities make the coastal setting part of local community activity. Pear Tree Point Beach occupies about eight acres at the mouth of the Goodwives River, with two beaches, a bathing area, accessible picnic facilities, a gazebo, bathhouse, boat ramp, and resident kayak racks.

Darien's Health Department samples water at Pear Tree Point and Weed beaches weekly from Memorial Day through Labor Day and uses a rainfall protocol for temporary swimming closures. Emergency service also reflects the shoreline: the town's 2025-2026 budget describes the Noroton Fire Department as a fully volunteer company of roughly 40 to 50 active members protecting southwestern Darien and operating marine-rescue equipment for the waterfront, moorings, harbors, and beaches. Townwide indoor activity centers on Darien Library, whose 2026 calendar included storytimes, youth STEM and craft sessions, adult lectures, films, technology programs, and recurring game and needlework groups.
