Norris City, IL

Norris City is a White County village whose original plat was filed in Carmi in 1871 and whose incorporation followed in 1901. The post office opened the same year the plat was recorded, giving the settlement an early connection to mail, roads, and the surrounding farm country. The name has its own local debate, and the village was briefly known as Popeye or Popeye's Station after an early depot agent. That blend of railroad naming and county geography gives Norris City a distinctly southern Illinois beginning.

Dairy Days has kept the village's calendar moving since 1947, with the festival held each September. Main Street businesses, food stores, restaurants, and the village's everyday services fill in the rest of the map. Norris City is a small White County place where the old post-office and rail-era history still sits behind a current community routine: a fall festival, local shops, nearby farm roads, and residents who use the village as their center of the countryside.
